“I’ve been engaged on it for nearly 10 years,” says Ragini, a Kannur-native who received hooked to the mural palette after she settled in Thiruvananthapuram in 2008. “I noticed an exhibition of mural works accomplished by a gaggle of girls that was based mostly on The Ramayana. She began by drawing a determine of Lord Krishna. Whereas the Kerala mural work depict tales from mythology, Ragini determined to maneuver away from it and opted for a basic, Abhijnanashakuntalam, for her subsequent sequence. “The reason is my professor, MR Chandrasekharan, who taught me the textual content in my undergraduate class. The best way he went deep into the verses and defined the story was etched in my thoughts and so when it got here to choosing a theme for my sequence, Shakuntalam appeared the best choice,” says Ragini.

The mission was not straightforward. “I needed to choose episodes from this nice literary work and I didn’t know easy methods to go about it. My husband, Ok Kunhikrishnan, ready 17 brief notes summarising the story. After that I began engaged on the sequence,” she says. It begins with Shakunthala’s delivery because the daughter of sage Viswamithra and Menaka, the celestial nymph. The work go on to relate her rising up within the forest, her romance with King Dushyanth, their separation and their reunion.

Apart from experimenting with the theme, the artist says she has taken liberties as an artist within the selection of colors as effectively. There’s a riot of hues in every portray, with shades of blue, inexperienced, pink and pink kind putting combos. The seamless mix of shades and the way in which by which she has captured the feelings of the characters are commendable. “My guru inspired me once I determined to showcase the wild animals and birds and the luxurious inexperienced environment since a lot of the story is about in forest.”
