A video that allegedly exhibits two ladies in Manipur being sexually assaulted on a highway has gone viral.
In a primary official response to the alleged video the Superintendent of Police (SP), Okay Meghachandra Singh issued a press notice. The press notice said “As regards the video of two ladies paraded bare by unknown armed miscreants on 4th Might 2023, a case of abduction, gangrape and homicide was registered at Nongpok Sekmai Police
Station (Thoubal district) in opposition to unknown armed miscreants. Investigation has began and the state police is making an all-out effort to arrest the culprits on the earliest”.
The press notice gave particulars of search operations being carried out by the State Police and Central forces in numerous susceptible fringe areas of each valley and hill districts of the state. In a single such operation, 2 Arms and a pair of Magazines had been recovered by the District Police, Imphal East.

Union Minister for Girls and Youngster Welfare Smriti Irani additionally responded to the alleged video after chatting with the state Chief minister. Smriti Irani posted on Twitter saying, “The horrific video of sexual assault of two ladies emanating from Manipur is condemnable and downright inhuman. Spoke to CM N Biren Singh ji who has knowledgeable me that investigation is at present underway & assured that no effort can be spared to carry perpetrators to justice.”
The alleged viral video has nonetheless kicked off a political storm forward of the Monsoon session of Parliament that will get underway on Thursday 20th July. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in his tweet has questioned the central authorities claiming that the Prime Minister’s silence has pushed the state into anarchy.
