Cupboard authorised 7 multi-tracking initiatives of Indian Railways at an estimated value of Rs 32,500 crore

The Cupboard Committee on Financial Affairs on Wednesday authorised seven multi-tracking initiatives of Indian Railways at an estimated value of round Rs 32,500 crore, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated.

The proposed initiatives, which can be totally funded by the Centre, will assist improve the present line capability, smoothen practice operations, cut back congestion and facilitate ease of travelling and transportation.

The initiatives overlaying 35 districts in 9 states — Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal — will improve the present community of Indian Railways by 2,339 km and supply employment of an estimated 7.06 crore man-days to the individuals of the states.

The initiatives embrace doubling of the present line between Gorakhpur-Cantt-Valmiki Nagar, the Son Nagar-Andal Multi monitoring Mission, third line between Nergundi-Barang and Khurda Highway-Vizianagaram and between Mudkhed-Medchal and Mahbubnagar-Dhone, doubling of current line between Guntur-Bibinagar, doubling of current line between Chopan-Chunar and the quadrupling between Samakhiali-Gandhidham.

Mr Vaishnaw stated these are important routes for transportation of assorted basket of commodities equivalent to foodgrains, fertilizers, coal, cement, fly-ash, iron and completed metal, clinkers, crude oil, lime stone, edible oil and many others.

The capability augmentation works will lead to extra freight visitors of magnitude 200 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum).
