GOP Picks Mike Johnson for Speaker After Tom Emmer Stumbles

WASHINGTON—Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana was chosen as Home Republicans’ newest nominee for speaker in a convention vote late Tuesday, hours after the celebration elected after which derailed a special member in its seek for the elusive candidate who can really win the gavel.

Johnson of Louisiana, the vice chairman of the Home Republican convention, bested Byron Donalds of Florida, a Trump ally fashionable with most of the Home’s most conservative lawmakers. The opposite candidates to be eradicated or drop out in earlier rounds have been GOP Rep. Roger Williams of Texas and two Tennessee Republicans, Mark Inexperienced and Chuck Fleischmann.
